Dojo Tradition: Animal Influences of the Snake

The snake teaches us several fighting characteristics.

The most important feature of the snake is "rhythmic endurance." The snake fights at full force for the entirety of the conflict and beyond. Even after a snake has lost the battle, its body continues to fight with full strength, and strike the opponent.

The power development classes and drills such as the "cross-over" drill are designed to build our strength and endurance so that we throw solid punches through the end of the sparring match, the conflict, or the self-defense situation.

The snake also teaches us flexibility. Invariably, your first activity in the Dojo was stretching. We stretch before each class, every match, and any activity in the dojo. We recommend that you stretch at home.
