Dojo Tradition: Animal Influences of the Crane
From the crane, we learn two important techniques.
The crane teaches us balance. The Kenpo kicking position is from the crane. The concept of balance, however, is extended to all of our moves. Never crossing your feet, and the shuffle that we use to maintain our balance while in conflict are derived from the crane.
Another characteristic of the crane that is embodied in Kenpo is grace. We use grace when we practice and recite our katas and practice some of the ancient moves still in our current Kenpo.
